Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

One of my Mom's all-time favorite books as a little girl was "Green Eggs and Ham" by the wonderful Dr. Seuss.   Many of Dr. Seuss books went well beyond just entertaining though, they sometimes had "hidden messages" that taught a lesson along the way while you enjoyed the wonderful artwork and read the rhymes.

The Lorax was one of those books..........it was a bit of a hint to the world that we'd best keep an eye on our environment - or else!   Back in 1971, Dr. Seuss brought us the Lorax, a small orange creature who speaks for the trees (“for the trees have no tongues”). The Lorax goes up against the greedy Once-ler, who cuts down all the Truffula  trees in his rush to make a product he believes that everyone must have – Thneeds ("It's a shirt. It's a sock. It's a glove. It's a hat."). As a result of the damage to the environment that his production brings, the Lorax and the other inhabitants of the community (Swomee-Swans, Brown Bar-ba- loots, and Humming-Fishes) must leave.

Last year on Dr. Seuss Day I dressed up like Sam I Am (gee......I wonder where I got THAT idea?!) but this year, I'm going to be a LORAX which was a character in Dr. Seuss's "The Lorax".

I think I make a pretty darn cute Lorax.............!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss and thanks for all the smiles, giggles, and fun over all these years.
