Pickles ...Celebrating Oui Oui's Gotcha Day..the Gothca miracles

Hi evfurry my name is Pickles....
My story is a sad one that haz a furry happy ending..not all kitties are as lucky az me an this story iz fur them..to show that sometimez a miracle iz waiting an a Gotcha day iz around the corner...
My mum waz a volunteer an foster mum fur kitties...she had little bottle bubz an mumz an bubz and also helped at a local shelter..
One furry hot summer she got a call..there waz a home near her where the lady had been taken to a mental health hospitalz an she had a house FULL of catz an kittiez...could she help!!
Of course..mum sprung into actionz...she waz given house keyz an had the policeman come with her ..well.....mum waz shocked! From the footpathz she could SMELL the house an knew this waz a bad bad hoardin situation...so she went in...even the policeman would not come in...
Kitties let me tell you this waz horrible....an this waz my HOME..
The house waz pitch black..the windowz had been boarded up...mum saw scared eyes evfurrywhere...it took her a while to adjust to the dark..there waz no power and the smell waz so bad.
Mum talked softly an moved slowly..startled kitties an catz went evfurrywhere...she waz wellin up with tearz..these poor sweet angelz she thought...
Mum had nothing to work with...there waz bucketz with dirt fur litter trayz....no food..it waz hot furry hot ...no water ..she had some tins of food an some paper plates (she had no idea what to expect so was not really prepared) she set the food down..still the kitties hid....many hissed otherz were just watchin.....she found a bowl an got some water down...she looked around an said "I will be back babies I am so sorry...back soon sweet ones"
Mum left..she rang the shelter an said we need some trapz we need to get these babies out of here now!
The next day mum returned...she was slow and quiet talking softly...there waz so much to do...some of the kitties were a bit braver..an they were hungry!! so she put trayz down with litter..threw the bucketz outside as far as she could...she popped lotz of food down and more fresh water..she sat on the dirty floor and talked to them all...see mum's shelter waz at full!! an they were trying so hard to get the RSPCA to take some...this waz a big problem...the woman's daughter would not come help an mum felt so frustrated....
The next day mum had some traps from the shelter....her an dad managed to get quite a few cats an kitties and mum an dad went down to the RSPCA..mum had a big bru ha ha with the staffs (MOL go mum) an said look at the facilities you have here and the funds and WE are a small shelter with no help ..what are YOU going to do!!
So they took them...
This went on back an forth for a week.mum trying to help these babies an trying to calm them down...Then the moment I waz gotcha'd...
Mum an her son had come to feed and do trayz an try and help one day...as they fed the rest of the poor kitties they heard a noise....mumz boy tracked it down..there was a big dining table ..the lady had pushed the table on it's side..the top waz against the wall...an trapped between this top an the wall..wedged all the way down was ME!
They pulled the table out...mum picked me up and then put ne on the ground...my back legs went flat an I couldn't move....
That was it Mum broke downz..she cried an cried an got furry angry..she grabbed her keyz..mumz son held me and we all left an got in mums car....I was blinded I couldn't see cos I never saw the light..my head waz crushed an one side was up an the other down....
Mums son held me so tight...mum stopped at the Police Station an said 'I have removed this kitten from the premises...if no one is going to help then they can go jump..any problems the woman can call ME !"
Mum drove straight to our old vet Dr Findlay..he gave me SubQ fluids an said I was one lucky kitten..mum took me home....
In the bathroom nice an quiet mum set me up a soft bed..water a tray an some food..i looked a sight wiff my wonky head...then Dr Findlay said my legs were probably just like that from being squashed an we must wait an see...
Mum rang her shelter...evfurry got behind mum..more traps an more cats an kitties caught..the daughter of the hoarder was to meet mum at the house on the weekend..mum had gone down with traps...the last catz were furry frightened an borderline feral..when mum opened the curtainz in the kitchen they went berserk,,they threw themselves at wallz and windows..mum was so upset....again more were removed..
Then the daughter arrived ...and she was told NOT to leave the door open...she left the door open...Mum and dad came with traps to get the rest and this stupid woman had left the door open an let all the rest out....mum was soooo angry...
So mum had me...I went from strength to strength..Dr Findlay checked me out an said I may get sinus problems cos my head was squashed...he gave me my vaccinationz..he spayed me and all for almost nothing...he said cos mum did the right thing by me! He also said as far as he was concerned ..if anyone asked I had died  as mum was terrified the hoarder lady would take me away...
I became a part of the family along with the other kitties..mum called me PICKLES because I was in a pickle when she found me..that day in February 2006...
A month later the police rang..the hoarder wanted to know where her cats were...well..mum told the police this....
'You were there..you smelled that house..you refused to enter it was so bad..i spent over a week back and forth taking care of those cats and kittens..they were removed for their safety to the RSPCA and the rest were let out by her idiot daughter...if she wants her cats I suggest she contact the RSPCA who will most likely lay cruelty charges against her...other than that if she has a problem she can ring ME and I will gladly explain what went on.' She also said a few swear words MOL ..QUITE A FEW!!
Mum never heard from anyone again...
That year at the shelterz xmas function mum waz given a beautiful bunch of flowers an a lovely bottle of wine and was praised for going above an beyond to help with this rescue..mum said the greatest gift was ME!
So that is my gotcha story..i waz close to death...but I was saved..i am a tiny girl..i never grew furry big..but I have a huge heart and a special place here with all the family....and my mum will never forget the soft cries and the sad state I waz in..i am her miracle girl...and the only problem I haz is evfurry now and then one of my eyes gets a bit winky ..thankyou so much OUI OUI fur allowing us to post fur your Gothcha day in aid of such a good cause....Happy Gothca Day from a furry grateful rescued kitty..

We have leaky eyes reading this (okay, our human is bawling), we didn't know you came from a hoarding situation. Bless your mum and all who helped rescue most of the cats. We hope the mentally ill lady was banned from ever having non-human beings in her "care" again.

We're so thankful you ended up in a wonderful forever home and only hope the other cats that were rescued were too.

Goodness this brought up so many bad memories for me as we were in a hoarding situation too. Mum's cat Emma was almost 20 years old and when she died mum went to the RSPCA and was amazed as there were over 100 cats in their cattery. They had to be put into cages 5 or 6 to each one as they didn't have enough for one each. Hannah who Mum rescued along with me was a semi long haired black and white cat. That was 4 or 5 years ago now. I would love to know where you are from to see if you came from the same place as we did.

Oh, Pickles, I didn't know that was how you got your name. What a sad situation and God bless your mom for doing what was right. It reminds our mom of a slogan that was at The Girl's school: "Sometimes what is right isn't easy and what is easy isn't right." Take care, sweet friend and thanks so much for posting today and sharing your story.

I came from a hoarding situation, too, Pickles! I'm sure glad you and your Mom found each other. Okay, we have to go dry our eyes now.

Thank you for participating in Oui Oui's post-a-thon to help the PAWS cats.

Hugs!
