Mom said I look very handsome in this crazy outfit! I think I look like I should be in a Barbershop Quartet. What do you think? Anyhoo it is not about me today.

Today is about all those who died while serving in the U.S. military. That doesn't just include men and women but woofies as well.

Mom shared the following two photos on our blog today, and she said I could share them here as well.

This first photo is Mom's dad, Harvey Buickerood. It was taken in 1943. He was in the U.S. Army.

This photo was taken in 1945 in Washington D.C. That's my Dad's mom, Harriet on the left and his dad, E.M. Blue, on the right. He was in the U.S. Navy.

My humans were fortunate, both their dads returned home from the war. If they hadn't, my mom and dad never would have been born.

I'd like to thank all those who have served and are serving in the U.S. Armed Service. And I'd like to thank Angel Sammy, Gracie and Raz for all the great noms.

How I Got Named Ducky

HiYa! Ducky here. How did I get my name? Well first I have to go back to Derby. He got his name becuz he was adopted on the first Caturday of May. That is the day they run the Kentucky Derby. I supposed mum could have named him Kentucky, or just Tucky! HAHAHAHA. Ken would have been too boring.
Darling Derby, just chilling out on the couch, way back when.

So then I came along and mum decided she wanted another name that started with a D. She had various things in her head, but didn't really decide until she found me.
Now my real long official name is Mallard Olympus Cutie Pie. Mallard is a duck, so I became Ducky. Why the long name? The 'Lympics were going on when mum got me and Grampie said she should name me Oly for the Olympics like Derby got name for the Derby. Mum said no, that could be my middle name.

It is fun to see how we all got named. I wound if mum got another cat what she would do. Another D name or something else?

How Scylla and Chimera Got their names

Since I am oldest I get to go first, none of the alphabet nonsense.  When Mommy first brought me and my litter mate Charybdis home we were foster kitties. But Mommy and the guys fell in love with us from the very first day, so we knew this was going to be our forever home. Mommy wanted to name us Katrina (Scylla) & Camille (Charybdis) cause she thinks they are pretty girl names and they are famous hurricanes, but Daddy said NO. He told Mommy she could keep us IF he got to name us. So she said OK as long as he didn't name us War (Charybdis) and Pestilence (Scylla) and she requested he pick out a girls name. So he looked in Greek mythology for some girl monsters and since Scylla & Charybdis go together and we look so much alike he thought that would be the perfect names for us. Especially since he felt like he was between a rock and a hard place when it was feeding time and he was the only one around. We were bottle feed when we first came to live here. Since the whole family liked it, Scylla & Charybdis became our names.

This is about the Scylla in Greek Mythology
Scylla was a nymph, daughter of Phorcys. The fisherman-turned-sea-god Glaucus fell madly in love with her, but she fled from him onto the land where he could not follow. Despair filled his heart. He went to the sorceress Circe to ask for a love potion to melt Scylla's heart. As he told his tale of love to Circe, she herself fell in love with him. She wooed him with her sweetest words and looks, but the sea-god would have none of her. Circe was furiously angry, but with Scylla and not with Glaucus. She prepared a vial of very powerful poison and poured it in the pool where Scylla bathed. As soon as the nymph entered the water she was transformed into a frightful monster with twelve feet and six heads, each with three rows of teeth. Below the waist her body was made up of hideous monsters, like dogs, who barked unceasingly. She stood there in utter misery, unable to move, loathing and destroying everything that came into her reach, a peril to all sailors who passed near her. Whenever a ship passed, each of her heads would seize one of the crew.

Scylla is also the name of a daughter of King Nisus of Megara.
Scylla could bark like a dog (according to some skulax, "young dog").

I have a very LOUD MEOW, so I guess you could compare it to a dog barking. I prefer to think Daddy named me after the beautiful nymph Scylla before Circe turned her into a monster.

Ok I am done so Chimera can have her turn.

Chimera where are you, it's your turn to MEOW. ~Scylla, reporting for ATCAD

Well you aren't going to have to listen to a long boring tail now that it's my turn. I plan to keep it short and sweet. The humans like mythology so when they needed a name for me Youngest Boy came up with Chimera from Greek mythology. Apparently he thought I looked like a monster. The Chimera according to Greek mythology, is a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of more than one animal. I did sort of resemble a drowned rat when they found me. I was soaking wet and didn't even look like I had fur as it was sticking to my skin I was so wet.

How Timmy and Fitz Got Named!

Fitz who should go furst?
You were here furst so why don't you start off Timmy
Thanks. Alright then, let me get going.
I was just a small fuzz ball hiding under the chair in my foster Moms house which was next door to Dads house. My foster Mom would see Dad getting cat food out of his car and would talk to him about the kittys she had, me and my brofur. It took a bit of time for Dad to agree to me coming over to live with him. You see Inky was Dads kitty and he was 21. Dad did not want to get him upset or introduce a kitty who would play too much and bother Inky.  They agreed that if Dad needed to he could give the kitty back. Done deal. It actually worked out fur me as Dad was supposed to get my brofur but he hid really good so Mom brought me over. Mom was a Harry Potter fan and called me Potter. Ugh.

I went over to Dads and took over as Inky said he was retired. I was in charge of my new home and told Dad that Potter was not a name fitting a manly man cat. He agreed.
We kicked it around for a couple of hours and he said: "Tomcat, I just don't know what name will fit you best." I replied:  "I agree, this is tough. What in the world will go with my surname Tomcat? Tom is too common and what else can we... wait... how about Tim! Timmy Tomcat! What do you think Dad?"
A huge smile came over his face.  "I think Timmy Tomcat is purrfect my little friend."

So that is the story of my name. Timmy Tomcat of the Tomcat Home.

Alright already Timmy. Goodness you took the whole post up!
Did not!
Did too! MOL!
My name was pretty easy fur Dad to suggest.
Way back when Dad had us in the Foster Room I lived with Rocky Raccoon, Little Buddy and Inky. Out of the four of us guess who was the wild child and your first three guesses don't count MOL. ME!

Check me out! I can catch anything!

I was full of energy and was ready to play every time Dad came to visit us.

I would go wild and we all had such fun

I had been called Alice. Really? Alice? MOL
I talked with Dad and we had a hard time coming up
with a  new name until one day when something happened.

You see we were all playing and I mean PLAYING! We were flipping and jumping. Rolling and thumping. Little Buddy liked climbing the cat tree and reaching out to whap at things as they flew by. That Day he got really excited and when he reached out he... FELL! Guess who he fell next to? ME! I went HISSSSS.
Dad said "Don't have a Hissy Fit Alice. Hey, how do you like Fitz you little hissy Fitz!" I was not happy at furst and let him know: "Oh Dad that sounds so... well... um..." Then after I rolled it off my cat lips a few times I meowed: "I like it! Yes! I do like it! My name is Fitz! Miss Fitz!"

Dad really nailed my name!
Edgy but lady like at the same time: Miss Fitz!

So there you have how we got our names. Hope you enjoyed it.
We can't wait to see how you got your names Tabby Cat Friends
You Betcha!

Today is my very first Mother's Day with my human mom. I think she is pretty terrific. She was still grieving for my Angel sisfur, Fiona, when I showed up. And though I know her heart still aches from losing her special "heart" kitty, she made room for me. I know she loves me bunches too.

This is one of my first photos with her back in January. She thinks she doesn't look too hot, but being a great mom, she said I could post it anyway 'cause I look super cute.

I love you mom, your son Cooper Murphy.

Below the photo is a poem by brofur Mauricio wrote. He said I could share it with all of you.

Wishing all the moms a day filled with love and kitty snuggles, Cooper Murphy Blue

Mau’s Mother’s Day Poem

My mom is patient.
My mom is kind.
My mom loves me,
Even when I don’t mind.
My mom feeds me.
My mom gives me treats.
She rubs my belly,
And she kisses my feets.
My mom thinks only of me
When she helps me with Scouts,
And she doesn’t get mad,
Even when I pouts.
I love you Mom.
What more can I say?
You are the bestest mom
Each and everyday.

Ducky and Mum

Happy Mum's Day to my mum. Loves you so much. Loves sitting on your boobities, then I hide your face.
Sitting behind you on the couch, snoopervising everthing you do on the puter, reading your book.
Best of all snuggles in bed in the morning. We had wonderful snuggles this AM, plus we do this almost every morning. Makes us both smile.

Happy day to all the mum's out there.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day

We want to wish all the Mom's a Happy Mother's Day. We asked our Dad to take our Mom out to lunch for us and he did Saturday, so she says she had a nice day. They went to a place called French Kiss that has tons of pastries so Mommy got a small cup of delicious and nutritious asparagus soup and then a Turtle Cheesecake, plus Daddy shared one of his deserts with her. Yep, he got two. Mommy was very sad that she was too full to eat but a spoonful of his chocolate raspberry cake.  She was stuffed but happy, the only thing is we didn't get any leftovers.

Yay For Moms!

Happy Mother's Day!
That wish goes for Moms everywhere AND Moms of all kinds too - not all "Moms" have their own kids but they are "Mom" to friends, other family, and certainly lots of other kids of the fur-baby type AND human type!    Moms are great - they are a shoulder to cry on, a nice warm hug when you need it most, good and caring advice, and most of all giving LOVE and support.  This is for all the Moms out there!
This will be the first Mother's Day that my Mom will be without my Angel brother Sammy.    Sammy and my Dad would always give my Mom a card and a big bouquet of flowers for Mom's Day.   Sammy seemed to KNOW it was a special day because he would make sure and give Mom extra lap time and snuggles.    I intend to carry on that tradition!
Me and Mom in March this year......
Sammy and Mom several years ago......
Both my Mom and Dad no longer have their Moms here - They are both across the heavens from the Rainbow Bridge now.    But that doesn't mean they are forgotten - every Mother's Day we say a prayer for them - hoping they are happy and know they are loved forever and ever AND to thank them for being MOMS.    It's a very big job and we really appreciate that!
So these are from US to Moms of all kinds everywhere!

Love, Angel Sammy and Teddy too
