Happy Tabby Cat Day

Today is a super special day for the TCC since it is National Tabby Cat Day.  We're sure lucky to be Tabby Cats and to also be members of the Tabby Cat Club.

Angel Raz and I hope all our friends have a great National Tabby Cat Day!

Angel Tamir is probably celebrating National Tabby Cat Day at the Bridge with Angel Raz and all of our Tabby friends who have gone OTB.

Did you know he was the 35th member of the club?

National Tabby Day

We Tabby Cats are super special and come in different varieties, The classic tabby pattern (also known as marbled or blotched) consists of thick stripes or spots that swirl into a bullseye on either side of the cat’s body. Classic tabbies also have a faint “butterfly” pattern on their shoulders with 3 thin stripes running down the spine.

The mackerel tabby pattern (also known as fishbone) is common, and presents as slender vertical stripes, gently curving on the sides of the body. The stripes may be continuous or broken into shorter segments as they reach the flanks and stomach.

Spotted tabbies are thought to result from a gene that breaks up either the mackerel or classic patterns, turning stripes into spots. The Mau, Maine Coon, Bengal, Savannah and Ocicat breeds are among the tabbies bearing this pattern.

Ticked tabbies have few to zero stripes or bands, but their distinctive pattern is the result of agouti hairs that break up the tabby pattern into a salt-and-pepper or sand-like look. Agouti is when individual hairs have distinct bands of color.

A patched tabby pattern is two-toned, often mixed with tortoiseshell.

We also have the very special "M" marking. Regardless of the type of tabby pattern, one thing all tabbies can have in common are 3 or 5 vertical lines that appear in an ‘M’ shape on the forehead, as well as dark lines coming from the corners of their eyes and that may cross the cheeks.

Regardless of where the ‘M’ came from, most tabbies also appear to have dark eyeliner surrounding their eyes, splotched pigmentation on the lips and paws, and an outlined pink nose.

We're proudly showing our Tabby markings today!! We hope lots of other Tabby Cat Club members show theirs today too

Happy National Tabby Cat Day!!

To all of our Tabby furiends everywhere!
HAPPY NATIONAL TABBY CAT DAY!!!

I have been in love with tabbies since my first kitty, Bobo, who was an incredibly handsome tabby:

(Bobo was found as a stray when he came to live with me, he was 6 months old at the time)

And of course our precious and crazy Cody

Tabby cats will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart!!

FROM WIKIPEDIA: "tabby is any domestic cat (Felis catus) with a distinctive 'M' shaped marking on their forehead, stripes by their eyes and across their cheeks, along their back, and around their legs and tail, and (differing by tabby type), characteristic striped, dotted, lined, flecked, banded or swirled patterns on the body—neck, shoulders, sides, flanks, chest and tummy. "Tabby" is not a breed of cat but a coat type seen in almost all genetic lines of domestic cats, regardless of status.[1] The tabby pattern is found in many official cat breeds and is a hallmark of the landrace extremely common among the general population of cats around the world. The tabby pattern occurs naturally and is connected both to the coat of the domestic cat's direct ancestor and to those of their close relatives: the African wildcat (Felis lybica lybica), the European wildcat (Felis silvestris silvestris) and the Asiatic wildcat (Felis lybica ornata), all of which have similar coats, both by pattern and coloration. A genetic study of tabbies found five genetic clusters to be ancestral to cats of various parts of the world.[2]"

Since today is also National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day I also wanted to include a photo that was taken in 2007 a week or so after I adopted Cody after a Petco adoption drive. So hard to believe it was 13 years ago!!

National Tabby Day!

Raz wanted to give a shout out to all our Tabby pals on National Tabby Cat Day!

Both Raz and Noelle will be spending their day napping  and appropriately social distancing

We also wanted to remember our Big Guy Angel Tamir.  He was a proud Tabby Cat Club member.  Angel Tamir sure knew how to work the camera!
